Ski Chalet Manager

The chalet manager at the cocktail bar

Summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Chalet Manager for Winter 2023/24 to join a team of four chalet staff in our luxurious chalet in Châtel, Portes du Soleil in the French Alps. We typically welcome 8-14 guests each week, a combination of children and adults. They expect to enjoy a luxury ski chalet experience, from the food and wine (a key part of our offering) that we serve, the chalet facilities, the beautiful setting overlooking the village, and the relaxed atmosphere created inside our lovely chalet. Our team also provide ski resort advice, a concierge service and driving to and from the pistes. The chalet manager will be active in service delivery along with the hosts whilst also overseeing the guest experience as a whole. Ability to maintain high standards and team motivation is an essential quality.  The successful manager will form part of a happy, motivated and independent team, enjoying leading benefits and with plenty of time to ski.

Job Details

You will work with the chalet team to create and maintain a relaxed and friendly environment in the chalet and ensure that our guests are looked after to a high standard in line with our mission. We have a very good reputation amongst clients for the quality of our service, facilities and the approachability of our staff, all of which are essential to maintain. The chalet manager will be expected to manage the guest experience, coordinate staff as necessary and maintain regular contact with business management. The Chalet Manager will be involved in all aspects of the chalet work along with the Hosts but will also be expected also to have an eye for detail and a sense for guests’ requirements.

The Chalet Manager and / or Hosts serve hot & continental breakfast every day, often preparing the hot options as well without the support of the chef. They will also be responsible for making freshly prepared cakes each morning for the guests to return to for afternoon tea.

Once guests depart for the day there are daily housekeeping duties to attend to: tidying bedrooms and bathrooms, vacuuming floors, laying out afternoon tea, bringing in logs, additional snow clearing etc. The Chalet Manager will also take charge of ensuring an appropriate concierge service is being delivered: making recommendations, booking lunches and other activities as required.

The Chalet Manager and Hosts provide transport for the guests to and from the lifts in our minibus. We provide an 'on call' chauffeur service for guests throughout the day until shortly after the lifts close.  Guests are asked to provide 45 minutes notice of pick up. The on duty staff member is then able to enjoy skiing or boarding in the Châtel area during the 'on call' shift with sufficient time to meet guests as desired.

Dinners are prepared by the chef five evenings a week. Evening service alongside the chef is delivered by one of the Hosts or Chalet Manager each evening. Canapés are served followed by a four-course evening meal. Wines are paired with each course nightly from our large cellar. Depending on the guests there may be an early children's meal to be served as well. One night each week one of the staff will prepare a grand raclette extravaganza (plates of traditional cheese, cured meats and vegetables that the guests cook on table grills), providing service as needed through the evening. The evening service is completed with cleaning and breakfast set up for the following morning.

On changeover day the Chalet Manager will ensure the high standards of housekeeping and chalet presentation are maintained in advance of new guest arrivals. Regular weekly and frequent adhoc communication with business managers will ensure accurate guest information also provide a conduit for staff feedback.

The role provides a great opportunity to participate and oversee team delivery of high level service in a luxury setting while enjoying the fun of living in the mountains.

The Package

We expect the winter season to be a fun experience. There will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the mountain environment and the many winter sports on offer. Châtel has a friendly atmosphere and there are many seasonaires keen to strike up new friendships. You will not find it hard to find new skiing partners.

We also expect our staff to benefit from the same calm and relaxing atmosphere that we aim to provide for our guests. With a team of four there is plenty of support available while working in and around the chalet.

We provide pre-season training for the whole team to learn about the chalet, the roles, to meet each other, and develop a good working relationship.

There will be a minimum of one full day and two half days off with plenty of additional time for skiing during the day.
